How to Hydrate, Dry Sensitive Skin in 6- Steps

Calling all the girls with sensitive, dry skin! I hear you, I see you, I feel you, I am you, and I’ve been successfully managed my eczema for over a decade. When I began to develop eczema in 2011, I consistently took the following 6-steps to protect, hydrate, and heal my skin!

  1. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated! Drinking a minimum of 2 Liters of water consistently per day can alleviate many skin conditions! According to Harvard University, “Drinking enough water each day is crucial for many reasons: to regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells, and keep organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.”

  2. Surprise- moisturizers don’t moisturize! Moisturizers work by locking in moisture that already exists in your skin! If you’re suffering from dry, scaly, or irritable skin, your skin may be lacking proper hydration locked in by a good moisturizer. Remedy this by applying the SunKissOrganics Retinol AHA Exfoliate Body Serum for hydration and the Velvet Body Balm to lock in moisture! A good rule of thumb is to apply both within 5 minutes of getting out of the shower.

3. Another way to ensure that your body stays hydrated throughout the day is to eat fruits and vegetables with high water content! Your body loses electrolytes throughout the day, especially if you work out often or during warmer weather. Foods with a high water content like strawberries, cucumbers, watermelon, lettuce, tomatoes, celery, and zucchini allow your body to naturally replenish its water content throughout the day allowing your dry skin to, once again, glow from within.

4. Make caring for your skin with a consistent skincare regimen your favorite part of the day! I do this by using products with great scents, simple ingredients, and minimal steps. All you really need is a gentle cleanser, a hydrating toner, and a moisturizer to lock all of that goodness in! For me, that means the Bright Face Kit but if you’re suffering from dark spots or hyperpigmentation then the Kojic Dark Spot Kit is perfect!

5. Most of us love a long, hot shower but, unfortunately, your lovely showers might dry your skin. When showering, use lukewarm to cool water to prevent inflammation, redness, and flareups if you suffer from eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea. According to Dr. Harry Dao of Baylor College of Medicine “dry skin is the most common cause of itchy, irritated skin so it is important to avoid overly hot baths and showers.” If you keep your showers short and cool, your skin will thank you!

6. Use a face mask weekly! I recommend the Hydrate CoQ10 & Aloe face mask. Dry, sensitive skin is no match for the Hydrate CoQ10 Aloe Face Mask! The creamy, clay face mask plumps, exfoliates, and hydrates your skin with nourishing ingredients like CoQ10, Avocado Oil, and Aloe Vera. Some of the benefits include hydrating and moisturizing dry skin, and diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Trust me, you’ll love it!
