Creamy Chocolate Avocado Pudding Recipe
Let me just preface this by saying, chocolate avocado pudding is one of the most nutritionally dense desserts out there. Avocados are a superfood! They are full of heart- healthy fats, folate, and carotenoids. Not to mention, they taste AMAZING. Long gone are the days of avocados only being used for guacamole (not that guacamole shouldn’t still be a staple). Now, it’s common to find them on toast, in smoothies, brownies, and even cakes! Who would have thought avocados could be so versatile?
Avocados are technically a fruit. However, unlike most fruit which is primarily sources of carbohydrates, avocados are a great source of healthy fats. These healthy fats are vital for luscious hair and glowing skin. If that’s not enough of a reason to eat them, then I don’t know what is! Here are a few nutrition facts about avocados that you might not know:
- Avocados contain more potassium than bananas. In general, people are already deficient in potassium. Potassium supports healthy blood pressure levels, so aim for half an avocado every day.
- 77% of the calories in avocados are from fat. This fat is known as oleic acid. This is a monounsaturated fatty acid that reduces inflammation in the body.
- Avocados are loaded with fiber. Fiber is one of the most important nutrients because it helps control weight, lowers the risk of diseases, and stabilizes blood sugar. There are two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber absorbs water to form a gel-like substance inside the digestive system. Common sources include beans, oats, fruit, peas, and avocados. This type of fiber prevents cholesterol and sugar from absorbing into the blood. About 25% of the fiber in avocados is soluble. Insoluble fiber is a tough matter found in nuts, vegetables, fruits, and grains. This form of fiber helps add “roughage” to your digestive system to keep you regular and prevent constipation. About 75% of the fiber in avocados is insoluble.
- The fat in avocados helps you absorb nutrients from other plant foods. Not only is it important to eat healthy foods, but you also need to be able to absorb them. As food moves through your digestive tract, it is moved into the body where it's used for different functions. Some nutrients are fat soluble, which means that they need to be combined with fat in order to be used. Try adding avocado to your salads or cook your vegetables in avocado oil to increase the amount of antioxidants you take in.

The best part about this pudding is that it only contains a handful of ingredients and five minutes to whip together. It’s that simple! I love adding toppings to spice it up even more. One of my favorite combinations is shredded coconut and chocolate chips. You can also try adding chopped nuts or fresh fruit.
Chocolate Avocado Pudding
Total Time: 5 minutes
Recipe Type: Treats
Vegan + Gluten Free
Yields: 2 servings
- 1 ripe medium/large avocado
- 6 Tbs almond, coconut or cashew milk
- 3 Tbs raw cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 Tbs coconut nectar, maple syrup or honey (if not vegan)
- Pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt
- Optional toppings: shredded coconut, chocolate chips nuts, fruit
- Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender. You may need to scrap down the sides and blender again to thoroughly combine.
- Top with desired toppings and enjoy!
